Precision architecture, built on trust
A walled quarter rebuilt in Khiva's own brick — a crenellated wall, a gate between two round towers, and a courtyard behind it.
The scheme works at two scales. Outside, a plain crenellated wall in mud brick carries the whole enclosure, opened only by a pointed-arch gate set between two round towers - so the approach is a wall first and a building second. Inside, the courtyard turns formal: a tiled portal on the axis, its half-dome in blue, flanked by two arcaded wings whose brick is laid in relief patterns rather than clad. The planting and paving are kept low and dry, which leaves the brick and the one tiled surface to do all the work.
